Sunday, July 23
Hands of Peace Sunday We welcome young adults from Israel, Palestine, and the US who gather in Carlsbad and Chicago each summer to plant seeds for a future peace in Israel-Palestine. A great opportunity to hear about their experience! HOP is supported by CPC, and over 750 alumni from the last twenty years are using their experiences in the world. We’ll hear from four of this year’s HOP participants during the 9:00 service.
Scripture: Genesis 16:7-16
Sermon: Journey through Genesis: The God Who Sees
Here’s one of the stories where the Bible’s family values may surprise us! God has promised Abraham and Sarah that they will have countless descendants… but so far the two of them have no children. So they decide one way to solve the problem is for Abraham to have a child by Sarah’s slave, Hagar—but this proves more complicated than expected. We’ll focus on the unexpected encounter between Hagar and God. It’s a fascinating story anytime, but particularly on Hands of Peace Sunday since Muslims trace their history back to Abraham through Hagar’s son Ishmael, while Christians and Jews do so through Sarah’s son Isaac. And it tells us something we shouldn’t forget about God.
To worship online live Sundays at 9:00 and 10:45 or recorded: go to www.Christ-Pres.Church
and click Watch Worship, then click the service you would like to attend.
Coffee service is available after both Sunday services.
