HANDS OF PEACE SUNDAY, JULY 25

Scripture  Exodus 2:1-10

Sermon    The Power of the Personal

The often overlooked story of Pharoah’s daughter finding the baby Moses floating in the Nile River, is not to be missed for its insight—and even more for its courage.

Hands of Peace Sunday is an annual tradition at CPC when we welcome Israeli, Palestinian, and American youth who take part in an intense three-week program of dialogue, learning, and fellowship as a way of planting seeds for a future peace in Israel/Palestine. Founded after September 11, 2001 by mothers of the three faiths, over 700 young adults have been through the HOP in San Diego and Chicago. This summer and last, the in-person program was suspended due to COVID, but this year an online “Summer Program Launchpad” is preparing next year’s participants for the program. CPC has supported HOP for eight years with mission gifts, homestays, board members Kathy Reese and Glen and Rocio Middleton, and by hosting youth on a summer Sunday, to resume in 2022!

Sister Faiths Reunion at CPC, 5:00 — 6:30 p.m. For the first time since January 2020 we will gather in person with our Jewish and Muslim friends outdoors for an ice cream food truck (for purchase), cold beverages, lawn games, and conversation. Please don’t bring snacks to share after all; we’ll have a few provided as well, and we’ll follow our worship protocol regarding masks.

Coffee Hour between services—stay late or come early! Coffee, tea, hot chocolate will be served by amateur baristas (no tips!). And yes, donut holes on communion Sundays!

WORSHIP THIS SUNDAY: SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE

9:00 a.m.  Contemporary Worship   10:45 a.m. Traditional Worship

Worship in the sanctuary with or without a mask. Those who are vaccinated need not wear a mask; those not yet vaccinated or who so prefer should wear them. Sing softly!

Worship in the lobby (narthex) with a mask in a safe environment for families with children and those with health conditions in this socially distanced, masked open air setting. Sing masked!

Worship outdoors on the patio with or without a mask in the shade under pop-ups (masks for those not yet vaccinated or with health conditions). Sing like you’re in the shower!

Worship online. Live every Sunday at 9:00 and 10:45, or later for recordings. Click “Watch Worship” (to the right) and click the service of your choice. Sing to wake the neighbors!

We are seeking to create an atmosphere of grace and comfort for everyone. We will not be screening worshipers, but those who come on campus are certifying they do not currently have COVID-19, are not experiencing symptoms, have no reason to quarantine, and will wear a mask and practice social distancing if they are not vaccinated.
