Holy Week begins with Palm Sunday worship, remembering the triumphal entry of Jesus into the holy city of Jerusalem and a glimpse of what is to come. Holy Thursday recalls the Last Supper of Jesus and his disciples. On Good Friday we tell the story of Christ’s passion and death as the shadows (“tenebrae”) lengthen in the sanctuary. Easter Day is the celebration of resurrection and hope, the beginning of the seven Sundays of Eastertide. To truly celebrate the joy of Easter, one must first come to the foot of the cross; we are all encouraged to worship on Holy Thursday, Good Friday, or both.
