Sunday, October 1
9:00 Contemporary Worship
10:45 Traditional Worship
World Communion Sunday This is the ninetieth World Communion Sunday, when congregations of any and every kind celebrate the sacrament of the Lord’s Supper as a sign of the oneness we share in Christ. First observed in 1933 at the height of the great depression, we join Christians around the planet to share the Bread of Life, reminding us that God loves all of us and each of us without regard for the distinctions that so often draw our attention. Here at CPC we welcome children to the Lord’s Table on World Communion Sunday, remembering how Jesus said “Let the children come to me…”
Peace and Global Witness Offering
Scripture: Matthew 13:44-46
Sermon: Playing with Parables: Putting the “Real” in Real Estate
We’re beginning a new series on the parables, which are much more than illustrations Jesus told to make a point. Even more, they are images and stories that invite us into the mystery that is God’s now and future presence in the world. We’ll say more about that, and look at two of the shortest parables this Sunday.
To worship online live Sundays at 9:00 and 10:45 or recorded: go to www.Christ-Pres.Church and click Watch Worship, then click the service you would like to attend.
Coffee service is available after both Sunday services.
The Peace and Global Witness Offering supports projects here and around the world. Half of our gifts support Presbyterian peacemaking causes; our mission team has designated the rest to support Jubilee USA (www.JubileeUSA.org), the interfaith network that works across the aisles to address structural causes of poverty (debt relief, anti-corruption, fair trade, etc.) Give October 1 or after, online or by check to CPC (memo: peace)
PLAYING WITH PARABLES is our fall sermon series encountering the gracious and mysterious God we find in the stories Jesus told:
October 1 The Treasure/Pearl (Matt.13:44)
October 8 The Sower (Matt. 13:1)
October 15 Last Judgment (Mt 25:31)
Oct. 22 The Late Workers (Matt. 20:1)
Oct. 29 The Loving Father (Luke 15:11)
Nov. 5 The Great Banquet (Luke 14:15)
