Lenten Season Small Groups

Finding Hope in Troubled Times is our theme for Lent, the season in which we renew the spiritual journey of our lives and prepare to celebrate Easter. Weekly sermons and small groups will explore resources for hope found in the “I am…” sayings in the gospel of John (I am the Light of the World, etc.). Why not join a small group—or form your own with the easy-to-use study guides.

Groups meet five times beginning the week of Sunday, February 18.

Drive for Katya

Good news: Katya will start an IT job at the firm where she interned this fall. The starting date is Monday, February 12.  Work is in Sorrento Valley, near Mira Mesa.

Transportation is the challenge—which makes childcare a challenge. Her workday ends at 5 p.m. Afterschool childcare ends at 6 p.m. We're hoping that getting a license and car for Katya will take 2-4 weeks, so we are planning to assist for a four-week period that will  begin Monday, February 12

Our first thought was to seek volunteers for childcare—but it seems easier instead to arrange for drivers to pick up Katya. That will get her home to her kids sooner, not to mention cutting hours spent on the bus in half. And it means whoever is volunteering that day will be done by 6 pm (or earlier) instead of 7 pm if they were providing childcare.

Our plan is thus to recruit drivers to pick up Katya on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday.

Please sign up below for any and all of the days you wish to drive. Bless you for all you've done for Katya and family!

An Evening of Community Conversation– open to everyone

  • Wednesday, March 13, 6:30 – 9:00 p.m. in the sanctuary (program starts at 7 p.m. sharp). Please RSVP by noon on Monday, March 11 to participate, Space is limited.

Join us for a unique opportunity to have a different kind of conversation with church and community members about issues to be addressed in the upcoming elections in a safe space, guided by a trained leader.

This follow-up to the church's Art of Inquiry Workshop will be different than a debate in the office or at the Thanksgiving dinner table. We'll meet in small groups for a conversation structured in such a way that everyone has an equal opportunity to talk about what matters to them, without interruption, without debate.

The purpose is to understand one another, not persuade one another, and to build community within our congregation and community by listening to each other and talking about what matters most to us—and why it matters.

Children's religious program

Register for Sunday School

Every Sunday, we offer nursery care for babies and toddlers (up to 4 years old) during both worship services.

Children in kindergarten through 5th grade begin the morning with their family in worship. After the Children's Message, they will follow their teacher to Sunday School.

Throughout the year, children will experience a portion of the Bible through visual storytelling, art, science, games, music and other creative mediums. This child-centered way to teach the Bible facilitates in-depth learning by reaching children at their developmental level in a learning style that works for them.

The first Sunday of the month is Communion Sunday; children, kindergarten and up, remain in the worship service with their families.
