World Communion Sunday  We welcome our children to the Lord’s Table. Breads from around the world remind us that we share this feast with people of faith of every language, in every place, on every continent.

Scripture   Colossians 1:15-20

Sermon   Questions People Ask: Are we to seek God’s universal truth, or just our own version?

In what is often called a “post-modern” world, is there such a thing as “universal truth?” We of the Christian faith look to an eastern Mediterranean peasant as our leader, not to mention our Savior. How can a faith that arose in such a specific, particular location following a specific, particular person possibly reveal a truth that is for everyone?

Sunday Adult Education: 10:10-10:45 am in the adult education room. Discussions track the fall sermon series “Questions People Ask.”

The Peacemaking Offering will be shared between Presbyterian efforts in the US and around the world and the efforts against human trafficking of San Diego Youth Services, providing help and healing for at-risk youth and survivors up to age 24. Services include a drop-in center, mental health clinic, and the county’s only overnight emergency shelter for minors as well as transitional housing. Use the peacemaking envelope or give online (CPC website: “Give,” scroll to “Give Now”).

Care Packages for College Students are sent by our Deacons every fall so they know their church family cares for them.  Send your student’s address & e-mail to mailto:amyk@cpclacosta.org by Sunday Oct 20. Stop by the lobby display to choose items for return on Oct. 20; donations needed too

Blessing of the Animals in the tradition of St. Francis of Assisi, noon. Bring your pets to this brief, outdoor service, and invite your friends, too!

                     (11:15 children’s program, preschool – 5th)

Scripture   Romans 8:35, 37-39, 15:13

Sermon   Questions People Ask: How do we trust God in the face of suffering?

When times are tough for ourselves or those we love, how can we continue to trust in a loving God? For some, God seems absent in the tough times, but for others, God seems most near. What makes the difference?

Sunday Adult Education: 10:10-10:45 am in the adult education room next to the sanctuary. Discussions track the fall sermon series “Questions People Ask.” Share your perspectives about the questions.

Pack Food for La Mirada School: all ages are invited to a new, fun hands-on mission project: packing food for kids at La Mirada School who don’t get much food on the weekend. We’ll pack 120 bags on Sunday September 29 at 10 a.m. Come to the old choir room next to the kitchen; it’s easy! Time expected: 25 minutes. We still need your non-perishable food donations! Pick up a list of what’s needed in the lobby.

Homeless Veterans Initiative: Bring your supplies for “move-in packs” for homeless vets receiving housing. Choose items to purchase from the lobby display, or donate funds (memo: Vets or online at our website/Give/Give Now). In two years CPC and four Presbyterian Churches in North County combined with Interfaith Community Services to house 122 veterans, 7 spouses, and 17 children!  CPC alone has donated over $7000 and 60 “Make-It-A-Home” packs. Furniture in good condition is needed anytime; call Interfaith (760) 215-9637 to schedule home pickup.

Presbyterian Disaster Assistance will be on the ground in the Bahamas and other places devastated by Hurricane Dorian. Make your check out to CPC with the memo “Dorian,” or go online to our website, click “Give,” scroll down to “Give Now” and choose Mission: Hurricane Dorian.

Unsure of what to expect

We know attending a new church can sometimes be a little intimidating, so we've made a page that lays out what you can expect when you visit us for Sunday worship.
